I Love The Part In The Middle

Words and music by Bill Schachter (aka Tex Country), recorded in the early 1980’s. Bill plays all the instruments on this – both guitars, electric bass, voice and harmonica. This song was recorded in a basement music studio along with “Steel Guitars in Heaven”, and Bill sent these two songs to music publishers in Nashville, with hopes that someone in the music industry would take an interest in his music. Back then, you didn’t send an email or a CD… the format was quarter inch tape, stored “tails out”.

There are many references to notable musicians in this song, including Buck (Owens) and Roy (Clark). Bill once telephoned one of the music publishers to see how they liked his music, and the guy says to Bill, “Y’know, Buck and Roy both live on the west” – not in Nashville like the lyrics imply. Anyhow, Nashville in the 1980’s might not have been ready for these tunes… but what do you think of them now? Bill Schachter loved the music of Kris Kristofferson (who is also mentioned in this song) – and who knows… maybe Kristofferson will get a chance to hear this song one day.
